The indefatigable Pierre Soulages returns to the Louvre!
24 December is a date which heralds the arrival of Christmas but also the birth of… Pierre Soulages in 1919! Creativity must be a source of longevity, because the master of outrenoir will soon be celebrating his 100th birthday. A decade ago, the year he turned 90 was marked by a wonderful retrospective at the Louvre and the Centre Pompidou. I very clearly remember those illuminated and textured blacks, applied with a roller in a single motion, and their astounding vitality. And now, from 20 December 2019 to 9 March 2020, a gorgeous retrospective of the painter’s work is being organized in the prestigious Salon Carré at the Louvre. The limited selection of pieces retraces more than seven decades of insatiable artistic production and experimentation. You can admire artwork which has never been seen by the general public, including very large paintings created in recent months.
